Events coming up that you need a wine to compliment? In honour of English Wine Week, we put together the perfect wine and occasion combinations that everyone should know. Try these five English wines for these five occasions: black tie, dinner with friends, garden party, romantic meal, and a summer picnic. We’ve also added in some wine glasses to compliment them.
Black Tie Event
The wine: Langham Blanc de Noirs
With 100% Pinot Meunier and 100% sophistication: this sensuous sparkling wine is more of a ‘Blush’ than a ‘Blanc’. Bursting with fruit, it showcases hints of peach and elderflower on the nose. The Pinot Meunier grape is the most floral of the noble Champagne grape varieties, and this is a fine and rare example of what Pinot Meunier can achieve.
The glass: Soiree
Beautiful events require a beautiful glass you can depend on to showcase all the subtleties of your carefully-chosen wines.
Dinner With Friends
The wine: Chapel Down Chardonnay
This English Chardonnay is made in an unoaked style to express the purity of the fruit. Chardonnay made in this way will compliment fish dishes like fish pie, fish cakes, simple salmon dishes and oysters, as well as light and creamy chicken dishes, perhaps in pasta, salad, or in a mild curry with a buttery sauce. The Chapel Down Chardonnay has apple, lime, apricot and pineapple aromas and flavours. It has a nice weight and texture, and a classic ‘mineral’ finish.
The glass: Adina Prestige or Vino Grande
Depending on your tastes, for a meal with friends we recommend the classically elegant and slim Adina Prestige, or perhaps the indulgently generous Vino Grande.
The wine: Langham Classic Cuvee
This brings back memories of garden parties celebrating the Royal Wedding, the Queen’s Jubilee, Wimbledon and many other fantastic British moments. The Langham Classic Cuvee will serve perfectly with a nice helping of strawberries and cream.
This sparkling wine is a blend of the three classic Champagne grape varieties, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier & Chardonnay. Aged for two years in the bottle, this wine has the hallmark of a classic. The Pinot Noir provides a summer fruit background, the Meunier a hint of peach and the Chardonnay an acidic backbone, keeping the wine structured. The bottle ageing adds depth and flavour. Delicious for drinking now or a great addition to your cellar to further mature.
The glass: Festival
For a garden party you want a beautiful glass you can be reassured is durable: the casually classy Festival Sparkling Wine glass will complement the Classic Cuvee perfectly.
The wine: Nyetimber Demi-Sec
Romantic meal where you’re looking to impress? The deliciously sweet Nyetimber Demi-Sec (dessert) is a more unusual English wine type. Light golden hues and a slight silver undertone illuminate this delicately effervescent wine. Aromas of pure lemon, mineral and honey tones and a hint of tangerine fill the nose. The palate has a lively sweet lemon start set off by a crisp acidity and a very clean, pure structure. The finish is minerally and citrus filled.
The glass: for a new date, impress with the exquisite Willsberger Anniversary collection. If it’s a special anniversary or honeymoon meal, we recommend our simply enchanting Sweetheart glasses.
The wine: Langham Rosé
When the summer sun comes out and the weather is deliciously warm, grab your picnic blanket and a Langham sparkling rosé and head out to enjoy! This sparkling rosé wine was nurtured from three champagne grape varieties, predominantly Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier but augmented by a hint of Chardonnay to give it structure. Its beautiful deep pink hues draw the eye while subtle red cherry flavours delight the taste buds. This bold but sophisticated wine served well chilled is the perfect refreshment for a summer’s day.
The glass: Winelovers
Don’t forget to grab your glasses too! Try the Winelovers Sparkling Wine Flute, a simple luxury that is durable and extremely breakage resistant.
