For a treat on St Patrick’s Day, we decided to make ourselves some homemade Baileys Irish Cream. On telling this to people, they were generally surprised that you could make Baileys at home, but it is shockingly easy. All you need is some ingredients and a blender. And the result is divine!
- 250ml light cream
- 297g condensed milk
- 350ml Irish whiskey*
- 1 tsp instant coffee
- 2 tbsp chocolate sauce
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend on high speed for 30 seconds. To save for later, bottle in a tightly sealed container and refrigerate. You’ll need to give it a good shake before serving.
*For this recipe we used Jameson Irish whiskey which worked a treat.
If you like your Baileys with a whiskey punch, this is the one for you. For those who like a more subtle whiskey taste, we recommend adding slightly more condensed milk. For ours we added 397g of condensed milk to take the edge off, but it still by no means tasted weak. If you want to make your Baileys super creamy, use double cream instead of light cream.
The photos here look a little pale, but the real thing looked and tasted exactly like Baileys. If you fancy it though, you can always add a little more chocolate sauce. The good thing about making your own Baileys is you can make it with more chocolate/cream/coffee to your own taste!
These are just a few suggestions, but the above recipe makes a beautiful Baileys drink that tastes just like the real thing (but better of course because it’s homemade!). A perfect treat for St Patrick’s Day. 🙂
